A bathroom remodel replaces the fixtures, surfaces, and often the layout of your bathroom. In Florida it is also a repair job. Heat and damp air work on a bathroom every day, and by the time tile looks tired, water has usually been moving behind it for years.

What does a bathroom remodel include?

A full remodel means the old room comes out. We remove the tile, tub or shower, vanity, toilet, and flooring. Then we look at what is behind it.

From there we repair any wet or rotted framing, reset the plumbing where it needs to move, waterproof the wet walls, and build the new room. That covers tile, the shower pan or tub, the vanity and top, the toilet, lighting, and trim.

Smaller jobs are fine too. Sometimes a room only needs a new vanity, a fresh floor, and a shower door. We will tell you honestly which one you are looking at.

How much does a bathroom remodel cost in Okeechobee?

A 2026 Southwest Florida pricing guide from MKCS Inc puts bathroom remodels between $13,500 and $60,000, with cosmetic refreshes at the low end and full custom work at the top.

Read that as an upper reference rather than a local number. Coastal Southwest Florida carries higher labor and material costs than inland Okeechobee, and we are not going to pretend a published figure from another market is our quote.

What do you find behind the tile in older homes?

This is the part that changes a price. Once the tile is off, we see the truth about the wall.

In older Okeechobee and Vero Beach homes we often find soft framing under the shower, old galvanized or cast iron drain lines that are near the end, and wallboard that was never meant to sit behind a wet wall. None of that is visible while the room still looks fine.

Can you convert a tub to a walk in shower?

Yes, and it is one of the most common jobs we do. A walk in shower is easier to step into, easier to clean, and it makes a small bathroom feel larger.

The work involves removing the tub, reframing the opening, moving the drain, building and waterproofing a new shower pan, then tiling. A low or zero threshold entry is possible in most homes and makes a real difference for anyone who does not want to step over a tub wall.

Which materials hold up in Florida bathrooms?

Humidity is the deciding factor here. A material that lasts in a dry climate can fail fast in ours.

We build wet walls on a waterproof backer rather than plain drywall, and we seal the pan properly before any tile goes down. Porcelain and ceramic tile handle damp air well, which is why we use them on floors and wet walls. If you want the same look running out into the hall, we can carry it through with a matching tile floor installation.

Good ventilation matters as much as the finishes. A working exhaust fan pulls damp air out instead of letting it settle into the walls.

How long does a bathroom remodel take?

Most full bathroom remodels run about two to three weeks of on-site work once materials are in hand. A smaller update can be done in under a week.

The clock usually starts before we do. Tile, vanities, and glass often have to be ordered, and a permit may need to be pulled first. We order early and give you a start date we can actually hold.

Do you need a permit for a bathroom remodel?

Usually yes, once plumbing or electrical work is involved. Cosmetic swaps sometimes do not need one, but moving a drain or adding a circuit does.

The authority depends on where you live, and it is not the same across our service area. A job in Fort Pierce goes through the city building department, one in Port St. Lucie goes through that city's own department, and a Vero Beach job runs through the shared Indian River County building division. We handle the paperwork so you are not learning three permit systems.
