Fence installation puts a permanent boundary around your property for privacy, pets, kids, or livestock. In Florida the failure point is almost never the panels. It is the posts, and how deep and how solidly they were set.

What kind of fences do you build?

Materials come down to how you plan to use the fence and how much upkeep you want. Wood gives the warmest look and the lowest entry price. Vinyl costs more but does not rot, does not need staining, and shrugs off our humidity. Chain link is the workhorse for large runs and acreage where the job is containment, not looks.

How much does a fence cost?

We are not publishing a per foot price here, and the reason is worth saying plainly. The cost guides we checked could not be verified from their original source, and we are not going to repeat a number we cannot stand behind.

What we can tell you is what actually moves the price. Total footage first, then material, then gates, then how difficult the ground is to dig. Those four decide almost the whole number.

Which fence material lasts longest in Florida?

Vinyl, in most cases. It does not rot, insects ignore it, and it does not need staining or sealing. In a climate this damp that matters more than it would up north.

Wood can last a long time here if it is pressure treated and maintained, but it is a maintenance commitment. Sun and rain work on it constantly, and neglected wood fences in Florida go grey and soft faster than people expect.

Chain link outlasts almost everything for pure durability. It just does not give you privacy.

How deep do fence posts need to go?

Deeper than most people assume, and this is the whole job. A fence is a sail. Wind pushes on the panels and every bit of that force ends up at the post.

Sandy soil, which is much of what we work in around here, does not grip a post the way clay does. That means proper depth and a real concrete footing, not a shallow hole and a bag of dry mix. Posts set short are the reason fences lean after the first hard storm season.

Do I need a permit or a survey for a fence?

Often yes on the permit, and it depends on which city you are in. Fort Pierce and Port St. Lucie each run their own building department, while Vero Beach goes through the shared Indian River County building division.

A survey is a different question. If you are fencing to a property line and you do not have a current survey, get one. Building a fence a foot onto a neighbour's land is an expensive mistake to unwind, and we would rather raise it before the posts go in than after.

Can you replace just part of a damaged fence?

Yes. Storm damage often takes out a section rather than the whole run, and there is no reason to replace what is still sound.

We match the existing material and height where we can. Be aware that a new wood section will not match weathered wood for a year or two until it greys in. On vinyl and chain link the match is usually close to invisible.

How long does a fence take to install?

Most residential fences go up in one to three days once materials are on site. Larger acreage runs take longer.

Concrete footings need time to cure before the panels take any load, so on some jobs we set posts one day and hang the fence the next. Rushing that step is how a fence ends up leaning, and we would rather come back tomorrow than build it twice.
