Land Clearing

Land clearing removes brush, scrub, small trees, and overgrowth from a piece of property so it can be used. Around Okeechobee that is ordinary rural work, because land here fills back in fast if it is left alone for a season or two.

What does land clearing actually include?

The core of it is cutting and removing vegetation: palmetto, scrub, undergrowth, vines, and small trees. Beyond that the scope depends entirely on what the land is for afterward.

Clearing for a fence line is narrow and shallow. Clearing a building pad means taking out root systems too, because you cannot build over stumps and voids. Clearing to reclaim a pasture or a yard sits somewhere in between.

We ask what the land is going to be used for before quoting, because that answer changes the job more than the acreage does.

Why does overgrowth come back so fast here?

Heat, rain, and a long growing season. Land in this part of Florida does not really get a dormant winter, so growth that would take three years to return further north can come back in one.

That matters for how you plan the work. Clearing a lot and then leaving it for two years before building often means paying to clear it twice. If a build or a fence is coming, it is usually cheaper to sequence the clearing close to it.

What happens to the brush and stumps?

It has to go somewhere, and that is a real part of the cost people often forget when comparing quotes.

Depending on the site and the volume, material is hauled off, piled in an agreed spot on the property, or mulched in place where that suits the land. Mulching can be a good outcome on acreage because it puts organic matter back rather than trucking it away.

We agree on where the debris ends up before we start, in writing, so there is no argument about a pile at the end.

How much land can you clear in a day?

It varies enormously and depends far more on what is growing than on acreage. Light scrub moves quickly. Dense palmetto with established root systems is slow.

Because of that spread we do not publish a price per acre. A number quoted without seeing the land is a guess, and it is usually a guess that gets revised upward once the crew arrives. We come look, then quote.

Do I need approval before clearing my lot?

Sometimes, and it is worth checking before a machine turns up. Rules differ between the unincorporated county and the cities, and some parcels carry wetland, tree, or environmental protections that limit what can be removed.

Inside city limits you are dealing with that city's own process. Fort Pierce and Port St. Lucie each run their own departments, and Vero Beach works through the shared Indian River County division. We would rather raise this at the estimate than have you find out afterward.

Can you clear around a fence line or driveway?

Yes, and this is one of the most common requests we get. A fence cannot go up through scrub, so the line has to be cut and cleared first.

Doing both with one crew saves a mobilisation and keeps the schedule tight. If you are planning fence installation, we quote the clearing and the fence together so you are not coordinating two companies against each other's calendars.

Is this work only for large acreage?

No. A single overgrown residential lot is a normal job, and so is reclaiming a back section of a yard that has gone wild.

Small jobs are often easier to schedule than large ones, since they fit between bigger projects. If you are not sure whether your property is worth a call, it probably is.
